Sinergia Animal Knowingly Misleads Donors

Note: Many of the events discussed in this article involved Vetted Causes, the organization that preceded Strategies First.

Below is a timeline highlighting an example of Sinergia knowingly misleading donors. The problem extends beyond this single example, but for brevity, we have focused on just one specific instance.

2024

Sinergia begins advertising that they can help 354 piglets with just $1, citing calculations from Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE).

February 20, 2025

An analysis is published asserting that this metric is based on multiple pieces of false information. Two examples are listed below:

~March 15, 2025

Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) reduces the metric from 354 to 285 piglets helped with $1. According to ACE, this reduction was caused by fixing the surgical castration issue mentioned in Example Issue 1.

Meanwhile, Sinergia continues to advertise the outdated figure of 354 piglets helped with $1, incorrectly citing ACE as the basis for it.

March 21-April 8, 2025

ACE and Sinergia publish statements acknowledging that the 354 piglets helped with $1 metric was calculated based on incorrect information, including the concern mentioned in Example Issue 2.

But despite their concessions, ACE says they won't adjust their calculations to address Example Issue 2 because "the magnitude of the change would not affect [their] decision to recommend Sinergia."

Meanwhile, Sinergia continues to advertise that they can help 354 piglets with just $1, and posts images of the metric.

April 9-April 18, 2025

ACE and Sinergia receive four emails, each containing a document that says:

"The impact calculations were not corrected (ACE has stated this), and still incorrectly credit Sinergia for helping millions of JBS's pigs [from Example Issue 2] who were not impacted."

The document in each email also notes that Sinergia's impact claims contradict ACE's (since ACE reduced their metrics to address Example Issue 1, while Sinergia did not).

ACE responds by declining to make further corrections to the impact calculations (despite already admitting the calculations are still based on false information).

Sinergia responds as well, but continues to advertise the same metrics.

April 21-April 22, 2025

At this point, Sinergia has been given over 5 warnings that they are advertising false information, and over 2 months have passed since the first warning.

In spite of this, Sinergia is still advertising that they can help 354 piglets with just $1 (meaning the metric has not been reduced at all).

Based on this, a public post is made stating that Sinergia's conduct constitutes fraud.

Less than 24 hours later, Sinergia stops advertising the 354 piglets per dollar metric, and begins advertising a lower metric: 285 piglets per dollar. This updated metric was calculated by ACE—and still relies on knowingly false information, such as the erroneous JBS commitment mentioned above (Example Issue 2).

Mid-Late 2025

Follow up emails are sent to both ACE and Sinergia to try and get them to fix the metric, but neither organization makes any changes to it. As a result, both ACE and Sinergia continue advertising the 285 metric, fully aware that it is based on false information.

At this point, the flawed 285 metric has been advertised by both ACE and Sinergia for over a year.

Note: the 285 metric is based on multiple pieces of knowingly false information, but for brevity this timeline focused on only one (the JBS issue from Example Issue 2). JBS is the largest meat company in Brazil, and this issue alone results in Sinergia being credited for helping millions of JBS piglets who were not helped.

Endnote

One could argue that ACE is responsible for the deceptive 285 metric because:

However, none of this changes the fact that Sinergia knows the metric is based on false information, but elected to advertise it anyways.
