Why We Don't Recommend Donating to Most Charities

We do not recommend donating to most of the charities we assess. This isn't because we prefer to write negative reviews—it's because very few charities are executing strong strategies for helping farm animals.

From our understanding, there are two reasons this is the case:

• High Barriers to Entry: Strong strategies for helping farm animals tend to require technical skills or large upfront expenses. This means relatively few charities have access to these strategies.
• Limited Donor Support: Strong strategies for helping farm animals tend to not be very emotionally satisfying. This results in relatively few people donating to support these strategies.

Recommended Strategies for Helping Farm Animals

Providing Physical Resources
Factory farms have poor conditions because better conditions cost money. Offering physical resources to farmers can help change that.

Litigation
The legal system can have a significant impact on farm animals. When properly executed, litigation allows animal advocates to improve laws, enforce regulations, and stop certain practices on factory farms.

Product Development
Many people think veganism is too demanding. By developing better products, we can help change that.
