Why We Don't Recommend Donating to Most Charities

We do not recommend donating to most of the charities we assess. This isn't because we prefer to write negative reviews, it's because of three key factors that are explained below.

Factor 1: Maximizing the Benefit of Farm Animals

Our goal is to recommend charities that are the most efficient at helping farm animals. This means that even if a charity helps some farm animals, we will not recommend donating to them if we think other charities are more efficient.

This process naturally results in most charities receiving a non-recommendation.

Factor 2: The Common Strategies Are Inefficient

In our opinion, the common strategies charities use to help farm animals are inefficient. If you'd like to understand why, please see our articles that analyze these strategies.

Factor 3: The Efficient Strategies Are Rarely Used

Very few charities are using the strategies we think are efficient. From our understanding, there are two reasons this is the case:

• High Barriers to Entry: The strategies we consider efficient tend to require technical skills or large upfront expenses. This means relatively few charities have access to these strategies.
• Limited Donor Support: The strategies we consider efficient tend to not be very emotionally satisfying. This results in relatively few people donating to support these strategies.
